Qualifications: BA Hons DipArch RIBA (University of Westminster, University of East London, University of Greenwich).
Career: Co-founded Formed Architects in 2012. Previously Gregori Chiarotti Architects, Lewandowski Architects, Maslen Brennan Henshaw Partnership.
Outside the Office: Michael is a talented sketcher and visual artist, skills that are of especial value at the concept stage of any brief. Away from the drawing board, he is studying Wing Chun Martial arts and plays an active role in the local community, mentoring underprivileged young people considering architecture as a career.
In his own words: “To outsiders, architecture may seem a dry, technical and detailed profession – after all, it takes seven years to gain a RIBA qualification! In reality, however, it’s massively emotionally rewarding. How people live is fundamental to their overall well-being so finding ways to improve that experience is hugely motivating. Seeing a job through from first sketch to end build takes inspiration and perspiration in equal measure. But the sense of satisfaction when you make a real and beneficial difference to someone’s living environment always makes it worthwhile.”
